After being postponed a few times, Asia Cup 2022 is finally set to take place in August-September 2022, with the 24th of August being the tentative date for the start of the tournament.

The Asia Cup 2022: All you need to know

The tournament was much awaited by the fans considering it involves the marquee clash of India-Pakistan at least once and sometimes even twice or thrice. This tournament has produced some amazing close matches, enthralling finishes, and also a tie in an ODI last time around. It is where several legendary players have taken their performances to another level, with the likes of Kohli making his highest score in an ODI against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup. All in all, it is going to be one heck of a tournament, and fans can’t wait for it.

The tournament (Asia Cup 2022) will be played in the t20 format this edition and will also serve as a prequel for the Asian teams in their preparation for the t20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Six nations are set to take part in this edition which includes India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and one qualifying team.

ASIA CUP 2022:VENUE

The event will be held in Sri Lanka as of now, although there might be a change in the venue considering the civil war-like situation in Sri Lanka. However, the SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket Board) has shown a keen interest in hosting the tournament amid the crisis. The other possible venue is likely to be the UAE.

ASIA CUP 2022: QUALIFIER

Five full-member nations of the ICC India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka, and Afghanistan are set to take part in the Asia Cup 2022.  The 6th team will be decided through a qualifying tournament to be held in August in Srilanka which would be contested by the UAE and Kuwait, who progressed from the 2020 ACC Western Region T20, and Singapore and Hong Kong who progressed from the 2020 ACC Eastern Region T20. The winning team of the qualifier tournament will book their berth in the main tournament.

ASIA CUP 2022: FORMAT AND SCHEDULE

The format and Asia Cup 2022 schedule are yet to be announced. Considering the format of the last edition, six teams were split into two groups of three teams each. The top two teams from each group progressed to the Super Four Stage. The four teams then played each other once in a round-robin format, with the top 2 teams making it to the finals. It remains to be seen whether this format returns or not. But we can expect top teams like India and Pakistan to play at least 5 to 6 t20 internationals.
