The news comes as a shocker for the cricket fans around the world who admired Ben Stokes as their hero. The ECB stated on Monday that the England all-rounder has decided to retire from ODI cricket.
Stokes who is just 31 years old currently will be playing his last ODI match on Tuesday against South Africa at Chester-le-street, Durham.
Stokes in his Instagram post mentioned that it was a very tough decision to make and that he has loved every minute of playing with his mates for England.
He also mentioned that he will give everything he has to Test and T20I cricket. With this, he also wished luck to Jos Buttler and the whole white-ball setup of England.
Stokes in his ODI career played 104 games scoring 2919 runs and taking 74 wickets in all. The highlight of his ODI career remains the 2019 World Cup final in which his 84 runs unbeaten knock led England to the super over and eventually made them the ICC World Cup 2019 champions.
