India captain Rohit Sharma was playing after a long time but was not rusty at all. In fact, Rohit got India off to a flyer by straightaway hitting boundaries putting pressure on English bowlers Sam Curran and Reece Topley.
Both Indian openers perished to Moeen Ali, Rohit Sharma scored 24 off 14 deliveries while Ishan managed only just 8 runs.
In at no.3, Deepak Hooda continued his run of form. He played a quick-fire knock of 33 runs off just 17 balls in an innings which included 2 big-sixes to Moeen Ali. India’s best batter as of today Suryakumar Yadav again showed his class again, he smashed 39 runs at a strike rate of 205.26. Just when the innings were looking to have lost momentum Hardik took the responsibility and batted India out of that phase. He top-scored with 51 runs of 33 balls.
India managed to put 198 an above-par score on the board. The intent from the Indian batters was there from the start, they played good cricketing shots and made the most of powerplay.
For England, Chris Jordan was the best bowler, he recorded figures of 4 overs-23 runs-2 wicket-5.75 economies. Moeen Ali also picked 2 wickets; Parkinson, Mills, and Topley each got 1 wicket.

England was chasing 10 runs per over from the 1st over and there was pressure from the start. Bhuvi Kumar removed the newly English captain Jos Buttler on a first-ball duck. Jason Roy too struggled in the middle, he was dismissed by Hardik Pandya for 4 off 16 balls putting an end to his struggle. Hardik also dismissed Dawid Malan and Liam Livingstone early on in the innings shifting the whole match in India’s favor.
Yuzi Chahal dismissed both set batters Harry Brook and Moeen Ali who were looking good in the middle.
It was all over by then for England. They were bowled out for 148. Hardik took the most wickets(4). Indian Debutant Arshdeep also bowled brilliantly and took 2 wickets.
We saw the complete Hardik Pandya in the first T20I and the kind of impact he can have. He steered the Indian innings close to 200 and took 4 wickets to win the game for India.
India vs England post-match analysis-
It was a great game for India and they have a lot of positives to take back for the 2nd T20I. Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav were fantastic with the bat, Bhuvi and Arshdeep got to swing and straightaway pushed the Three Lions behind in the game. Hardik became the first-ever Indian player to score a fifty and take a four-wicket haul in a T20 international.
Right then, India takes the lead in the series and now has 2 chances to grab the T20I series. 2nd T20I will be played on Saturday, 9th July, and will have the likes of Bumrah, Pant, and Kohli back in the squad. Till then, take care and goodbye!
