The 3rd T20I between England and India was played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on the 10th of July. Having won the toss, England decided to bat first on a good batting track.
India made 4 changes in its line-up – Shreyas Iyer, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, and Umran Malik came in for Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Yuzvendra Chahal.
England also made a few changes– Phil Salt came in for Sam Curran and Reece Topley replaced Matt Parkinson.
England made a decent start with the bat managing 52 runs in the powerplay with the loss of one big wicket Jos Buttler. The English captain departed for 18 runs after he was done by a good length delivery from Avesh Khan.
Jason Roy made 27 off 16 balls but failed to convert it into a big score and gave his wicket to Umran Malik. Phil Salt was clean bowled by Harshal Patel on a slower ball and walked to the pavilion for just 8 runs.
The partnership between Dawid Malan and Liam Livingstone (84 off 43 balls) turned out to be the really important one. Dawid Malan smashed 77 off just 39 deliveries including 6 fours and 5 sixes while Liam Livingstone made an unbeaten 42 off 29 deliveries hitting 4 big-sixes. With contributions from Harry Brook (19) and Chris Jordan (11), England ended with 215/7 on the board.
Ravi Bishnoi and Harshal Patel picked 2 wickets each while Umran Malik and Avesh Khan got 1 wicket each.
India lost 3 early wickets, Risabh Pant for 1, Rohit and Virat for 11 each, and was reduced to 31 for 3 inside the powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav was the star with the bat yesterday scoring his maiden T20I hundred when the team was down and needed the runs most. He smashed every England bowler to all parts of the ground, his range, placement and shot selection were perfect. The hundred came at a strike rate of 200 plus as Sky managed to score 117 off 55 deliveries including 14 fours and 6 sixes.
Surya, however, was dismissed in the second last over and had to end up on the losing side as India fell short by 17 runs.
For England, Reece Topley was brilliant recording figures of 4 overs-22 runs- 3 wickets. Chris Jordan and Dawid Willey also took 2 wickets each.
Reece Topley: 3 Wickets
What a game that was, 413 runs were scored, a brilliant 100 from Suryakumar Yadav, and a total of 23 sixes were hit in the match.
India captain Rohit Sharma praised and was pleased with Suryakumar Yadav’s innings. He also added that India has been playing some good cricket and want to continue playing good cricket and get better with every game.
So, that’s it from the 3rd T20I, India clinch the T20I series by 2-1 and now the bandwagon will move the ODIs, with the 1st ODI to be played on the 12th of July, 2022.
