The rain-affected encounter between India and Ireland was reduced to 12 overs per side. India won the toss and elected to bowl first keeping conditions and rain in mind.

Umran Malik was handed his T20I debut while Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav were the ones who were included in the side yesterday.

India started with a bang picking 2 wickets in the first 2 overs. Both senior Irish batsmen holed out early, Balbirnie was bowled by Bhuvi on duck while Stirling departed on 4 to Hardik’s bowl. Gareth Delany also fell prey to Avesh early on just 8 runs. Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker stitched together a partnership. Harry took the attack to the Indian bowlers and scored quickly with a couple of brilliant cover drives and lofts over covers, Ireland was cruising at this stage. However, courtesy of some excellent and controlled bowling by Yuzi India pulled things back successfully. Harry carried his bat through the innings and scored 64 off 33 not out. His innings included 6 fours and 3 sixes and took Ireland to a good total of 108 runs at the end of 12 overs.

Bhuvi and Yuzi were the picks of the bowlers for India. Bhuvi bowled 3 overs- 16 runs for 1 wicket and 1 maiden. Yuzi bowled 3 overs giving away just 11 runs and picking the crucial wicket of Lorcan Tucker. Avesh and Hardik got 1 wicket each.

Ireland put up a good total on board and it was going to be an entertaining chase and so was the case. Ishan and Hooda came out to bat as Ruturaj had some niggle. Ishan Kishan took India off to a flyer scoring 14 runs in the very first over. Ishan’s quick-fire knock lasted till the 3rd over, (he scored 26 of 11 deliveries) after which Craig Young dismantled his stumps on a fullish delivery. Surya came in next and was found in front of the stumps on the very first ball he faced. He departed for a golden duck lbw by Craig Young.

Hardik came to bat on a hat-trick ball and successfully defended it off. Hardik and Hooda played risk-free and calculative cricket and stitched together a partnership. They broke the shackles when the spinner came on and scored 21 in one over. From there the required run rate came down drastically and was a very easy chase for India. Hardik departed on 24 off 12 deliveries hitting 3 sixes but the game was almost done by then.

Hooda smashed 47 not out of 29 deliveries including 6 fours and 2 sixes and finished the game successfully.

Craig Young took 2 wickets while Josh Little got 1. India chased down the target in only 9.2 overs and won the game by 7 wickets.

This shortened game promised to be an entertaining one and indeed turned out to be a good match. Ireland did well in patches, Harry Tector and Craig Young showcased their abilities with the bat and ball respectively. India though stayed true to its reputation and notched up a comfortable win as a strong side should.

So, folks, that’s a wrap for India vs Ireland 1st T20I now looking forward to the 2nd T20I.
