IRELAND’S CHASE

Irish opener Paul Stirling got off to a flying start. He banged 18 runs in the very first over of the innings by Bhuvi Kumar. On the other hand, captain Balbirnie took his time and set his eyes on the pitch, and started attacking from 3rd over.

After 5 overs Ireland was 65 for 0 cruising at a run rate of 13 runs per over. In the 6th over, Indian spin did the trick. Bishnoi removed Stirling on a googly, and Stirling scored 40 of 18 deliveries. Gareth Delany came in and went back for a duck off 4 balls courtesy of a direct hit from Hardik Pandya.

Harry Tector the star from the last game came in at no.4. He started his innings with singles while Balbirnie was hitting Indian bowlers for consecutive sixes. Balbirnie made 60 off 37 deliveries before holing out Harshal on a wide delivery outside off stump. Tucker came in at no.5, he only managed to score 5 runs and perished to Umran Malik becoming his maiden wicket in international cricket.

Dockrell and Tector scored quickly and got some timely boundaries. Ireland then required 38 of 3 overs to win. Bhuvi came in to bowl the 18th over and showed his experience. He nailed his yorkers and only gave away 7 runs picking the wicket of Harry Tector. Dockrell and Adair tried their best but Ireland just fell short by 4 runs. Dockrell scored 34* off 16 and Adair scored 23* off 12 taking Ireland to 221 at the end of 20 overs. Bhuvi, Harshal, Umran, and Bishnoi each got a wicket.

INDIA WON BY 4 RUNS

In the end, it was an agonizing defeat for Ireland who came so close to the target but ended on the losing side. For Ireland, Harry Tector was the biggest plus point and is likely to play an important role going forward.

For India, Deepak Hooda was the standout performer who made the most of this limited opportunity in national colors. Samson played well on his comeback and Umran had a decent first two games.
