IPL 2022 was a massive hit. Two new franchises were introduced, and one (Gujarat Titans) even went on to win the title. Many players who were written off last year as “not good enough” proved their worth this year and will form a part of the IPL 2023 retained players list. With 10 teams, many rookies also got their chances to become stars, and some grabbed their opportunities with both hands.
Some star players who are retained every year by their franchises for big amounts did not perform as expected and drained the auction money spent on them. While players like Rahul Tewatia, who were termed as too expensive to buy, returned the worth of every penny spent on them through their spectacular performances.
After every season, there is this question with the franchises about which players to retain and which ones to let go. To make these decisions, respective franchises keep a lot of things in mind, which, of course, include performance along with the amount spent for the player, auction economics, brand value of the player, and the franchises’ backing for a certain player.
Let us analyze and predict the IPL 2023 retained players list and the IPL 2023 released players list for all teams.
The 5-time champions Mumbai Indians did not have a great season in IPL 2022 as they finished last on the points table with just 4 wins in 14 matches. The owners will have their task cut out in the IPL 2023 auction to find new players and combinations to improve their performance next time. Mumbai will need to sign new bowlers to give support to their main bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer.

The CVC Capital owned franchise are the defending champions of IPL 2023 season and are not expected to make many changes in their IPL 2023 team players list. Hardik Pandya has adopted the leadership responsibilities really well and will be their IPL 2023 team captain.
RCB is the most famous team in the Indian Premier League and has not won a single title yet. Every year the RCB fans dream of the trophy and then end up losing hope. In IPL 2022, RCB qualified for the play-offs for the 3rd consecutive time but lost in the Qualifier 2 to end their campaign. The current RCB squad has some really good all-rounders and bowlers and their names will definitely be included in their IPL 2023 retained players list. They lack in the batting department and should be looking to go for quality middle-order batsmen in the upcoming auction.

Delhi Capitals are a team on the rise and have been consistently performing from the last 3-4 years. In IPL 2022, DC missed the playoffs by a whisker but fared well in the season overall. Led by Rishabh Pant, Delhi is a formidable unit, however they would like to add strength to their middle order and also a couple of fast bowlers to improve their bowling.
The Punjab team is known for restructuring their whole team after almost every season. Punjab does not retain many players and is the team that has the most money coming into auction and they make some really expensive buys. However, the team they built in IPL 2022 auction is quite strong to be precise and they might not want to change and release a lot of players in their current squad.

KKR finished 7th with just 6 wins in 14 games in IPL 2022. They did not have a great season and would have to work to do in the next auction. They will need proper opening batsmen and some changes in the bowling department as well.
Chennai Super Kings saw Ravindra Jadeja leading halfway till the tournament and then stepping down and MS Dhoni taking over again. Overall, it was a season to forget for the Chennai Super Kings as they finished 9th with just 4 wins in 14 matches. For a team like CSK who has done so well in the IPL and are the big daddies of the tournament, their current team is really not that great. Most of their players are aging and there are only a few promising youngsters. CSK might want to change their core group before IPL 2023 and some big names from the international circuit for example Ben Stokes and Mitchell Starc.

Quinton De Kock,
Sunrisers Hyderabad have always been a team whose bowling is strength and batting is average. In IPL 2022, SRH finished 8th on the points table with only 6 wins in their 14 games. Their problem was a lack of a quality spinner owing to the exit of Rashid Khan and injuries to Washington Sunder and the form of captain Kane Williamson, who really found it hard to score in the powerplay.
