Halla Bol!!!

The Inaugural IPL champions, current IPL finalists, and the champions league finalists, are some of the accolades to describe the royal achievements of the Royals. The Rajasthan Royals is a fan favourite team and the curiosity to know RR retained players 2023 has already begun amongst the fans.

RR has had lots of star players like Shane Warne, Shane Watson, Ben Stokes play for them.

However, their current squad is the best they have had in the history of the Indian Premier League. And the RR retained players 2023 list will surely be a long one.

Let us start by analyzing the performance of the current RR retained players to get a crux about who are the players going to be retained or released for IPL 2023.

Sanju Samson- Sanju has been a terrific leader for the Rajasthan Royals. He led the side with a lot of calm yet aggressive mindset to the IPL 2022 finals. With the bat, he averaged 28.63 scoring 458 runs in 17 matches. With the help of 2 fifties, he finished in the top-10 run-getters but his batting performance could have been better. However, Sanju will likely be the first name featuring in IPL 2023 RR retained players list.

Jos Buttler- The orange cap winner of the recently concluded season, Jos the boss was on fire this IPL. Jos scored 863 runs at an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149. He smashed 4 centuries and 4 half-centuries, including a century against RCB in Qualifier 2 to get RR into the finals. Jos was also the MVP of the season and proved the worth of every penny spent on him by the Rajasthan Royals.

Yashasvi Jaiswal- RR retained Yashasvi Jaiswal before the previous auction for INR 4 crores. Jaiswal did pay back the RR management’s trust in his abilities. Yash scored 258 runs in 10 matches which are not that good but he definitely gave good starts in the powerplay and even played a couple of match-winning knocks. Jaiswal was like a livewire in the field who also took some great catches along with saving runs in every game.

Ravi Ashwin- Probably one of the best acquisitions by the RR team, Ashwin delivered with both bat and ball. Ashwin was used as a floater in the batting lineup, who absorbed pressure as well as took the attack to the opposition on many occasions. In an important top-2 qualification game against CSK, Ashwin scored 40 runs off 23 balls to secure a comfortable win for the men in pink.

Yuzi Chahal- Yuzi was the best bowler of the season by far and Sanju used him to perfect effect. Chahal bowled 1-2 overs in the middle and 1-2 overs in the death overs, he struck for the Royals whenever they needed a wicket and did not leak many runs. In 17 matches, Yuzi picked 27 wickets and finished as the purple cap winner.

Prasidh Krishna- Krishna is the type of Indian bowler Royals had been looking for for years. With his pace and bounce, he troubled the batters with the new ball and kept things tight in the powerplay. At the death, he did go for a few runs but also picked up crucial wickets and even bowled a maiden over defending against DC. In 17 matches, Prasidh picked 19 wickets.

Trent Boult- ‘Thunderbolt Trent boult’ is the best left-arm pacer in the world. Boult was RR’s main weapon in the powerplay who triumph the batters to win the game for RR. He took 16 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 30.75 with 2/18 being his best performance.

Shimron Hetmyer- Shimron was given the finisher’s role in the team to which he responded positively. Batting in the lower-middle order Shimron scored over 300 runs in 15 matches with a strike rate of more than 150. Hetmyer ensured victory for RR on many occasions contributing a quick fire 20-30 runs in the end.

Nathan Coulter-Nile- Nathan is an Aussie right-arm quick who can be handy with the bat as well. Unfortunately, NCN could only play one game in IPL 2022 due to an injury he sustained while bowling.

Devdutt Paddikal- DDP as his fans call him, was the glue in the middle order which kept things going for RR in the middle overs. He scored 376 runs at an average of 22.12 in 17 matches which also included 1 fifty. Devdutt is a youngster who is getting better with every game, however, he needs to work a lot on his strike rate as he tends to get stuck sometimes.

Obed McCoy- Obed really pulled things off towards the end of the tournaments. His slower ones were deceptive and back of the hand deliveries gave him wickets. In the 7 games that Obed played, he picked up 11 wickets with 3/23 being his best.

James Neesham- Jimmy as we all know is a world-class all-rounder. He didn’t get to play many games due to the 4 foreigners rule but contributed to RR in every way possible.

Daryl Mitchell- Daryl in the form of his life in test cricket however, he could not replicate or showcase his skills in the IPL. He struggled in the 2 matches he played scoring at a strike rate of just 75.

Rassie Van Der Dussen- Another player, who is in red hot form in international cricket, but has not made it big in the IPL. Rassie got out early in the 2 matches he featured in the 11.

Riyan Parag- Riyan is a youngster who is immensely backed by the Rajasthan Royals management. He had an average season except for one 50 he scored against RCB which got the team to a good total. Riyan is an excellent fielder and catcher, however, he might be one of the RR released players 2023.

Navdeep Saini- Navdeep is a right-arm fast bowler who has also played for India in recent times.

Navdeep did decently good in the few matches he got his chance for RR.

Karun Nair- Karun a former royal, returned to the Royal family before this season. He played a couple of games but could not leave a mark in the 2022 tournament.

Shubham Garhwal- Shubham Garhwal is a power-hitting batsman from Rajasthan. He is yet to make his IPL debut.

Dhruv Jurel- The young India U19 wicket-keeper batsman didn’t get to feature in any game this season.

Kuldip Yadav- Kuldip is a left-arm pacer who is with Rajasthan Royals from a couple of years. He has played only one game for RR so far, vs Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021.

Kuldeep Sen- Kuldeep Sen was the emerging star for the Royals in the previous season. He played 7 matches and picked 8 wickets with his best figures being 4/20. Kuldeep successfully defended 15 runs against Lsg in the last over with Stoinis on the strike to hand an amazing victory to the royals.

Anunay Singh- Anunay is yet to make his IPL debut. He is a promising right-arm pace bowler who plays for Bihar in domestic.

Tejas Baroka- Tejas is a leg-spinner who has played 1 game for Gujarat Lions way back in 2017. The youngster had to sit on the bench for the whole season.

K.C. Cariappa- The Karnataka man, unfortunately, did not get a chance to play this season. However, he has played in IPL in the past and also done well in some matches.

Performance being the parameter, the below-mentioned players make the retained players list. Rest might have to feature in RR released players 2023 list.
