Ashok Kumar Bagri 07, Jun 2022

On Tuesday, June 7, Sri Lanka will host the great Australians in the first T20I of the three-match series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The two teams last met in a five-match T20I series hosted by Australia in February 2022. The visitors had a difficult time, as they were defeated by a score of 4-1.

While Australia remains a formidable opponent in the format, Sri Lanka has a number of in-form players, including Wanindu Hasaranga, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Matheesha Pathirana, who all performed admirably in the just-finished IPL 2022. While Hasaranga was a strong contender for the Purple Cap, Rajapaksa was an excellent addition to the Punjab Kings’ batting line-up.

As the team prepares to face Australia, Pathirana, commonly known as Jr. Malinga, will be taught by the great pacer himself.

Sri Lanka vs. Australia Match

Report on Pitch

Because the R Premadasa Stadium is not a high-scoring venue, bowlers will gain more than hitters. When contrasted to pacers, spinners are likely to have the upper hand. The captain who wins the toss will try to chase down the target in the first innings, limiting the opponent to a low score. In 42 games, the average first-innings score was 153 runs.

Probable Top Performers

Probably the best batter of the match

Pathum Nissanka:

When the two sides met earlier this year, the Sri Lankan opener was in terrific form, and he was also the series’ leading scorer. He was able to settle in despite the adverse conditions. With home-field advantage this time, he’ll want to replicate his previous performance and get the team out to a winning start.

Probably the best bowler of the match

Wanindu Hasaranga:

Because the pitch is spinner-friendly, Hasaranga will try to make the most of the situation. He had a fantastic season with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2022 when he was the second-highest wicket-taker with 26 scalps. He’s in fantastic form right now and will try to keep it going against Australia.

Although the best performers for the match are from the host’s side, it is expected that like the last time Australia would defeat the Lankans at home.
